Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:47:04 GMT

DEAR TRAVEL TROUBLESHOOTER: On the first night of our vacation rental in Hawaii, I found cameras pointing directly at the bed in our master bedroom. I immediately contacted Vrbo and cited their surveillance policy, which says cameras and audio recorders can’t be used inside a property.A Vrbo representative offered limited guidance and asked for more information and pictures. I left the following morning and found a hotel. Vrbo directed me to file a police report. I returned to the property and filed a report with the Hilo police.Vrbo agreed to cover our hotel stay for the next two nights. But so far, I’ve received nothing from Vrbo. I’m looking for a refund of the hotel plus the remaining balance of $1,095. I successfully disputed the second half of my Vrbo payment on my credit card. Can you help me get the rest?— Angela Hall, Raleigh, N.C.ANSWER: You’re not the first vacation rental guest to find a camera in a home. But aimed at the bed in the master b...

(AP) — The Swamp is getting a makeover, a significant overhaul that’s expected to cost at least $400 million and be a “multigeneration solution” for an aging and iconic stadium in the heart of Florida’s campus. The Gators announced plans Monday to hire an architect for the design of its revamped Florida Field, the first public step in a process that’s been ruminating for years. The school will open a formal bidding process in July.Athletic director Scott Stricklin said it’s “premature to speculate” on the final cost, seating capacity and a specific timeline. But he made it clear the project’s main goal will be to transform the game-day experience for fans while maintaining a lot of what helped the Gators create one of the most daunting home-field advantages in the Southeastern Conference.“Whatever work we do there doesn’t need to be a Band-Aid,” Stricklin said at the league’s spring meetings last month. “It needs to be a multigenerational solution to continue ...

PARIS — A controversial fundraising campaign to help the family of the policeman who killed teenager Nahel M. in France has topped €1 million. The campaign was launched on popular U.S. platform GoFundMe by a French far-right figure and on Monday reached the €1 million mark — nearly five times more than a fundraising effort to help the 17-year-old’s mother. Despite the controversy, GoFundMe said it wouldn’t take the campaign down. On Monday, French ministers invited on radio and TV shows painstakingly tried to avoid taking a stance on the subject. “Everyone can express their feelings and contribute to a fund … But I think, in this case, that it doesn’t go in the direction of appeasement,” Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti told France Inter. The killing of the 17-year-old of North African descent by a police officer last week has thrown France into chaos, sparking violent demonstrations across the country and re-igniting long-simmering tensi...
